PROJECT LIFE - My Way

If you are interested at all in memory keeping/scrapbooking I am certain you have heard of Becky Higgin's PROJECT LIFE. It's and idea to get back to basics. It was created to make scrapbooking less stressful and simple. I'm giving it a try and here's my story why:

I quit paper scrapbooking after the birth of my second daughter because it was too time consuming and just took up too much room in my house. I couldn't deal with the clutter and the overall stress of getting an album complete.

In 2008 I discovered digital scrapbooking. Less clutter and less mess. It has been such an amazing hobby for me. I have grown so much in digital design and I never bore of creating a new page. It gives me a chance to create memories for my family quickly and creatively. I am on numerous creative teams which has built my confidence. However, I have over 300 pages saved on my hard drive with no place to go. I've printed a few albums, but I make so many pages just for the sake of making pages because of a "cute" kit that comes out and it goes to my folder on my computer and pretty much stops there.

I think back on why I started scrapbooking in the first place. I want to hold on to the memories of our lives. I want my children to have something to look back at and reminisce about. I yearned for a way to do this without giving up my digial scrapbooking hobby.

Project Life encourages you to scrap as you go through the year. It starts with a title page and then you devote a couple of pages to an entire week. You just slip your photos into the little pocket protectors that come with the kit and then journal a bit about it on some pre-printed journaling cards. Genius! I can do this.

So, I tried. But there was something about the kits. EVERYONE was going to have those same little cards. I needed more than that. I needed to have more variety. It looked like it wasn't going to work for me after all. And then I came across shops like The Lily Pad and Oscraps. Their DIGITAL designers were creating their own version of Project Life and one genius even created DIGITAL page pocket protectors. I was sold. I can still create weekly pages, but mine will be digital, where my heart belongs. The difference will be that I WILL be printing my weekly layouts every week and they will immediately go into my three ring binder.

I'm excited and can't wait to continue to share my progress with you. Here is my title page. Wish me luck and I hope you will join me on this journey whether it is the normal PL way or your own way like me!

ONE LITTLE WORD - PLAY

**Disclaimer** - This post is a deep one for me :-)

I have been told by more than one person that is close to me that I need to lighten up. I get stressed out so easily these days and I used to not let things bother me like they do now.

When I saw that Ali Edwards was continuing her "One Little Word" class this year the word, "play" instantly jumped into my mind. "Play would be a good word for me!", I thought.

I then started writing down a whole list of words: express, positiveness, nurturer, etc. But I kept coming back to the word play. I mentioned it to my hubby and he agreed that I definitely needed to add playfulness back into my life.

I'm not sure when I lost my easy going self. I think it was after I had children, which seems a little ironic. With the birth of my children came the birth of worrying in my life. I worry about them all the time. I worried that they weren't getting enough to eat or enough sleep. I worried that they might not be getting the right teacher for their personality. I worry that they aren't in the right sport or weren't challenged enough at school. With the worrying came seriousness and a bit of negativity. With that also came cattiness, blaming and overall pessimism.

I'm tired of all that and I'm ready to ease up. I'm ready to live in the moment. I'm ready to play with my kids and quit worrying about them. I'm ready to be spontaneous and not so rigid. I'm ready to quit worrying about everyone else and to enjoy them and life.

I signed up for Ali's class and I'm ready to start this journey. I just found this necklace today on Etsy. It's in my cart and I'm ready to buy it. Wish me luck. I've been in this rut for about 9 years and I'm sure it won't be an easy one to get out of! I've also finished my first assignment which was fun and a little playful :-) You can also see it below.

New Mini-Book Project - Saving Christmas Cards

So far it has been a good year. I am spending my time being crafty and there is nothing better in my opinion.
I am always inspired by what I find on GinaRaeMillerPhotography.com. If you remember I purchased her
family binder printables back in September. I love my binder. Her projects are always so practical. I love that!

Yesterday she posted her mini album of Christmas cards and I knew I had to create one! I get so sad to "dispose" of my Christmas cards at the end of the year. This year I created this little album and I'm so excited with how it turned out. Looking forward to having collections each year to look back at. Here are a few photos.

I purchased one 12x12 sheet of Echo Park red swirl scrapbook paper, rings and some red foil thickers from my local Hobby Lobby. I took the project with me to Emma's volleyball practice and had it done before the practice was over. I started by rounding all the corners of my cards, cut the cover and back page from the 12x12 paper, hole punched it all and added it all to the rings. It was a quick and easy project and my heart is happy that I get to keep them all!

New Year's News

2011 was a great year! I made a promise to be more active. This is a promise that I actually kept! I lost over 30 pounds and am now officially a jogger. I would say runner, but I don't think I move fast enough to qualify for that title yet! Perhaps by the end of 2012 that will change!
Because my hobby is not an active one, scrapbooking took the back burner. I dropped my most time consuming roles on Store Creative Teams and tried to spend less time in the forums, which ate up a lot of my time and caused me to be more sedentary and not in touch with my family and friends. It was a good thing.
I still managed to score some great CT positions with individual designers and I'm the happiest I've been in terms of my commitments with my amazing hobby of scrapbooking. I am designing for ALL of my favorites! Truly blessed!
Now that I am committed to jogging every other day, I am ready to start adding some additional scrapbooking positions and commitments into my life. I think I am ready for it!
I recently was asked to join the Creative Memories Design Team. I was hesitant about it at first because they wanted me to use their software. I gave it a whirl and I really love using their Storybook Creator 4.0. It's so easy to use and was created for scrapbooking. In fact, if I were new to digital scrapbooking this is the route I would take. So all of you out there wanting to give digital scrapbooking a try, I would recommend it. It's much cheaper and super easy to use! Photoshop is still my go to for editing photos and that will not change! I feel honored to be working for this company. I'm still amazed that I am actually getting paid to do what I love so much! It's really a blessing!
I also am attempting Project Life this year. I just joined a little group of other SUPER creative women for this journey. I am really excited for this and look forward to sharing my progress with you all.
A couple of other projects and positions are in the works. I will get to share those with you soon! In the meantime, I'm off for a jog and then off to get ready for a New Year's Eve get together with my very best friend and her family. Because after all, you must live life to create a "project life".

I've seen lots of family binder photos floating around Pinterest. I've attempted to create one making my own pages. I've been working hard on mine for the past three weeks. I just love how much more organized I feel since I've started using it! However,after a couple of weeks there are things I want to change. I have also been a little disappointed with the "cute" factor of my binder. I want it to be eye candy because I take it EVERYWHERE with me. It's kind of like a handbag. It needs to fit my style!

Today was my lucky day! Gina Miller is also making one for her family and lucky for us she is selling her SUPER CUTE templates. Here's a taste of what you can get in Pack 1 (Pack 2 coming next week).

I spent my afternoon getting a few things made. My binder is a black leather soft binder. I started off with one of the hard binders, but found it to be a pain to carry around. I switched it out for this soft one and I love it! Here's my cover page:

I also created a page for me of daily routines for every day of the week except for Saturday. Saturday I take the day off from chores :-) I adapted Gina's giant chore list template to create this page for myself.

I also completed the important phone numbers page today. That one I am not posting for privacy reasons :-)

I am so excited to get this project complete exactly the way I want it! Three cheers for home binders!

I Love Pinterest! Our Uh-Oh Jar

Pinterest is my new addiction! I just love the wealth of ideas it gives and it encourages me to get out there and make things, which makes me happy! My girls have been arguing a lot. One is whiny and the other can be catty. So, I found this great idea for a "Uh-Oh" jar here at this blog. When they argue, whine or tell me they are bored for the umpteenth time, they get to choose a chore from the jar. Here is our version of it! I will be introducing it to the girls when they get home from volleyball camp today. I will let you know how it goes!

Here is the list I put together of the possible chores they can do. I'll encourage them to think about what they could have done differently while they are completing their chores.

bring down hampers and sort laundry for mom

empty all bathroom garbage cans in house

clean out car

clean off desks in game room

mop kitchen floor

vacuum upstairs

sweep the floors in the kitchen

extra work packet 30 minutes

handwriting packet 30 minutes

What I have been up to....

Hi blog friends! It feels like ages since I've posted on my blog! I have a good reason. I have been spending time off my computer and being more active. I have lost 24 pounds since the beginning of March! I am so excited and feel GREAT! I have 13 pounds to go to reach my goal weight. It's been one of the hardest things I've ever done. I have learned to have self control like I've never had before! The good news is that it gets easier every day. I also started Couch to 5K and I am on week five. It's going well too and is surely helping with my weight loss.

I've given up a couple of my big Creative Team spots with Two Peas in a Bucket and Jessica Sprague. I just couldn't keep up with the workload with my new lifestyle change. I will continue to work with the CTs that you see to the right as long as the work loads don't get too heavy!

I am hoping to get some pages done in the next few days for my CT so stay tuned! I'm a little rusty!

Why is it that every time I try to slow down on my scrapbooking that something really fun turns up that makes me want to scrap more? I think it's just meant to be! I am meant to spend my free time scrapbooking!

Hi Blog friends!

I am simplifying my blog in attempts to also simplify my life a bit. I loved doing project 365 last year, but I have to admit it was a bit stressful and time consuming remembering to update it. So, I'm taking a break from it this year. I'll try to post my favorite photos here every now and then :-)

I'm also making an effort to finish Ethan's first year album before he turns two! Therefore, I will only be scrapping other pages when I need to for CT requirements. And I will be doing the minimum for my CT's, which will be hard. I often go above and beyond my requirements. I've come to the conclusion that it's OK not to do that every month!

I'm starting a major weight loss program tomorrow. I'm hoping to get to my goal weight by the last day of May, which includes losing 36 pounds. I think spending less time on the computer and being more active will help me reach my goal! Wish me luck!
